2. Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Grants — $150,000 to $550,000
Organizations helping people enter careers in construction and the building trades have a major funding opportunity through the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program.
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is accepting applications from qualified community-based organizations and coalitions that can recruit, prescreen and provide pre-apprenticeship skills training. Selected organizations will also help participants transition into full apprenticeship programs.
Approximately $12 million is available, with individual awards ranging from $150,000 to $550,000. The state anticipates making approximately 25 awards, and no matching funds are required. Illinois.gov

3. Neighborhood Market Grant Program
Chicago's small neighborhood food retailers may qualify for funding through the Neighborhood Market Grant Program, administered by the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection in partnership with Allies for Community Business.
The program provides one-time grants to qualifying small retail food businesses operating physical storefronts in priority areas of Chicago. It is designed in part to support businesses that serve as neighborhood economic anchors and provide access to food in communities that have experienced disinvestment.
Eligible applicants generally must operate a qualifying food-and-beverage retail business, generate at least 75% of revenue from retail food and beverage sales, operate a Chicago storefront, hold the appropriate business license and maintain an established business bank account. 4. Chicago Workforce Solutions Program
Chicago employers looking to train employees or bring new workers into their companies may want to take a close look at the City of Chicago Workforce Solutions Program.
The program provides reimbursable grants for eligible training expenses. Businesses can use funding to upgrade the skills of existing employees or provide on-the-job training for new hires. Grants can cover up to 100% of eligible training expenses.
The latest Bond funding cycle opened October 1 and remains open through October 30, 2026 for eligible businesses and nonprofit organizations. Applications for qualifying businesses located in eligible TIF districts are accepted year-round. E&ES

5. Chicago Small Business Improvement Fund — Up to $250,000
For some Chicago business and commercial property owners, renovating a building may come with significant financial assistance.
The city's Small Business Improvement Fund, commonly known as SBIF, provides reimbursement grants for permanent building improvements in eligible Tax Increment Financing districts. Depending on the property, the program can reimburse up to 90% of pre-approved construction costs.
Maximum reimbursements can reach $75,000 for multi-tenant properties, $150,000 for commercial properties and $250,000 for industrial properties. Residential projects are not eligible. SomerCor

6. $10,000 Creative Accelerator Fund for Illinois Artists
Artists throughout Illinois have an opportunity to receive $10,000 through the Illinois Arts Council's Creative Accelerator Fund.
The taxable award is intended to strengthen artists' practices and professional growth. Eligible applicants must be at least 21, have an active and sustained artistic practice, meet Illinois residency requirements and provide qualifying work samples. The program covers a broad range of creative fields, including arts and crafts, design, dance, digital media, film and video, literature, music, performance, photography, theater, visual arts and community-based arts.

7. Chicago Employment Pathways Expo Brings Together 30+ Employers
For Chicago residents looking for a job, considering a career change or searching for training, the Chicago Urban League Employment Pathways Expo will bring more than 30 employers, training programs and career resources together in one location.
The free event is scheduled for October 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chicago Urban League Empowerment Center, 8331 S. Stewart Ave. in Chicago.
Job seekers can explore opportunities in healthcare, skilled trades, the public sector and other industries. From funding for neighborhood businesses and nonprofit organizations to support for artists, workforce training, and employment opportunities, several programs are currently open across Chicago and Illinois. Some deadlines are only days away, so applicants should review eligibility requirements and begin the application process as soon as possible.
Here are seven opportunities worth knowing about this week, and the first two are time-sensitive


1. $107,000 Chicago Bears Community All-Pros Grant
Nonprofit organizations making an impact across Chicagoland may be eligible for a $107,000 Community All-Pros grant from the Chicago Bears.
The program supports organizations whose work aligns with four focus areas: health equity, economic advancement, education and community safety. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations serving the Chicagoland area and should be prepared to demonstrate their community impact and explain how the funding would further their work.
